FISHEATING CREEK, PALMDALE FL.

by FRANCO VELASCO
(CLEWISTON, FL )

MY SON AND I STARTED BY GETTING SHUTTLED TO BURNT BRIDGE FROM THE FISHEATING CREEK CAMPGROUND ON HWY 27 AROUND 8 AM. FROM BURNT BRIDGE IT'S ABOUT 8 MILES OF PADDLING, GOING WITH THE CURRENT ALL THE WAY. WE STARTED IN A SMALL LAKE WHICH IN SHORT TIME ENTERED THE FIRST OF A FEW RUNS BETWEEN AND IN A CYPRESS, SABAL PALMS AND LARGE OAK FORESTS. TRULY A MAGICAL TRIP WHICH HAS NICE PICNIC SPOTS ALONG THE WAY TO INCLUDE SANDY BANKS AND BEACHES IN WHICH WE COOLED OFF, (WATCH OUT FOR MR GATOR, WE ONLY SAW ONE SMALL ONE, BUT WE HAVE SEEN BIGGER ONES ON PREVIOUS TRIPS). THE FORCE OF THE CURRENT DEPENDS ON RAINS JUST NORTH OF FISH EATING CREEK AND A DEPTH OF 1.75 TO 2.5 FEET IS VERY GOOD, DURING LOW WATER SPELLS THERE MIGHT BE A LITTLE LIGHT PORTAGING BUT SAFER SWIMMING. IN OUR KAYAKS THE TRIP TOOK ABOUT 5 HRS.

Fisheating Creek
by: Dennis Odisho

My wife Deanna and I stayed at Fisheating Creek last weekend and stayed in one of the campers available at the campground. Brenda and Monte run the place and do an excellent job at it! We went kayaking on the creek and it was extremely beautiful with all of the extra rain we've been getting in FL this year. The creek path is great because you become enveloped in old Cypress trees with spanish moss and have to meander through these little paths and it is very intimate. The one and only bad thing about the trip was the locals on their outboard powered ghanoes. They were driving too fast and came too close to us on a few occasions. Other than that, this little place is just awesome. THANKS AGAIN TO BRENDA AND MONTE!!! WE WILL BE BACK! D&d

Here we come agian..
